This kit includes enough bits to make 16 archers, 16 spearmen (or Lothern seaguard-spearmen with bows), 8 silver helms (cavalry), and 1 bolt thrower plus 2 crew. There are also enough extra bits for several banner bearers, musicians, and champions as well as some to customize the rest of your soldiers. The amount of time it takes to make the figures and paint them is based on how much detail you want to put into them. If you want very detailed figures you can spend a few weeks worth of spare time on this set alone.
As far as what you get for your money this is one of the best deals you can find in Warhammer figures(less than $2 a figure). Warhammer figures are in general fairly expensive. This box set gives you an army worth roughly between 650 – 800 points which isn`t a bad start to an army but the extra figures are very expensive. White lions, pheonix guard, and swordmasters of hoeth run about $4 a figure (elite infantry). Dragon princes will cost you about $10 dollars each (cavalry). Most generals and leaders will also cost you around $10.
Despite the cost, collecting and painting the figures is very enjoyable, not to mention the fun of actually playing the game. If you are willing to spend some money on the figures you can certainly have hours of entertainment out of them. In my mind it is worth it especially if you can find a good deal on the figures.
